Towards Canada’s New Hydrogen Economy: A Base Case for the Edmonton Region Hydrogen HUB
Hydrogen is a vital component of Canada’s future net-zero energy system and is internationally recognized as the fuel of choice to decarbonize heavy freight, space heating in cold climates, and more. But with transporting and exporting hydrogen being central to realizing its economic potential, pipeline infrastructure scaling is vital to Canada’s success and must be strategically considered.
Europe is making significant progress in this area with the European Hydrogen Backbone project involving 23 European gas infrastructure companies that are working together to plan pan-European dedicated hydrogen transport infrastructure. This initiative offers important learnings for Canada. In this Edmonton Region Hydrogen HUB webinar, we heard from Dr. Niko Bosnjak, Head of Communications and Energy Policy at Open Grid Europe about this initiative.
