To meet Canada’s commitment to cut GHG by 40-45 percent below 2005 levels by 2030, zero emission alternatives such as hydrogen need to be pursued across all regions of the country, ultimately creating a network of interconnected HUBs. To be successful, transition must not only occur in highly industrialized and densely populated regions but also in large geographic centered regions with less obvious hydrogen supply and demand potential. Towards Hydrogen: A Hydrogen HUB Feasibility Study for Southeast Alberta evaluates the unique character of the Southeast Alberta Region and contrasts the hydrogen potential generated from top-down and bottom-up evaluations. The report demonstrates the feasibility of establishing a Hydrogen HUB for the region, based on its strengths of having higher per-capita energy demands and capability to be a major hydrogen supplier.
