Decarbonizing our communities requires us to explore different ways to think about utility planning, to better align infrastructure investments with a carbon-neutral future economy. For the building sector, this means moving beyond building-by-building or appliance-by-appliance approaches to more local and area-based planning approaches that could maximize the transition while minimizing costs and risks. These strategies may include a mix of solutions, and in certain contexts, thermal energy networks (TENs) may offer a promising alternative to traditional building-by-building approaches.
During this webinar, an expert panel will provide insights on how to distinguish between common misconceptions and genuine technical, regulatory, or financial barriers and how to consider the trade-offs associated with TENs, before exploring implementation strategies, commercial structures of some projects, and lessons learned from early experiences.
Amy Jacobs is a Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations at Enwave, one of North America’s largest district energy providers, known for its innovative, low-carbon thermal energy systems in urban centres. Amy will be speaking to the commercial structure of the projects and technologies Enwave has deployed to support climate targets through district energy.
Keith Bate is Director of Engineering at Creative Energy, a pioneering developer of district energy systems in Canada. With a focus on decarbonizing high-density urban environments, Keith will highlight recent and upcoming projects that leverage renewable sources and modern infrastructure to meet the energy needs of future cities.
Aurélie Beauvais is the Managing Director of Euroheat & Power, the international network for district heating and cooling. She is also a seasoned EU energy policy expert and advocate for sustainable thermal infrastructure. Aurélie will provide a European perspective on policy trends, market development, and cross-sector collaboration in accelerating district energy decarbonization.
