The world is entering the age of electricity.
As new electric technologies transform how we live, work and move, Canada’s economy will increasingly depend on a foundation of abundant, affordable, clean energy. Meeting those growing needs will mean doubling or even tripling the size of our grids—and fast.
Launched today by the Transition Accelerator’s Electrifying Canada initiative, GridGuide is a web-based tool to help provinces create the conditions needed to grow their electricity systems. While regional collaboration will be vital to this expansion, each province will have its own pathway to energy abundance, and GridGuide helps planners choose which actions to prioritize, based on their own priorities and unique regional context.
Built on Electrifying Canada’s RealWorld Electricity Framework, which draws on two years of working sessions with over 300 organizations and experts across the electricity ecosystem, GridGuide contains more than 50 high-priority actions, each linked to clear goals for electricity system transformation. By ranking those goals, GridGuide makes it simple for planners to see how each action impacts their priorities and to create custom strategies for grid growth.
“We already have the technologies to support electrification at the scale that Canada needs,” explains Electrifying Canada’s executive director, Evan Wilson. “Now we need to create the right conditions for this expansion. Addressing social, economic and infrastructure challenges will require coordination between policy-makers, utilities and industry. With GridGuide, we’re making it easier to prioritize the actions that will matter to each province, based on where they are today and what’s most important to them moving forward.”
